1981
Founding of JKUSA
Established alongside Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology (JKCAT) with the admission of the first 100 students on May 4, 1981. Supported by the Kenyan and Japanese governments, JKUSA emerged as the unifying body to advocate for student rights and foster community in this pioneering institution focused on agriculture and technology.
1988
University Status
JKCAT transitions to Jomo Kenyatta University College of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a constituent college of Kenyatta University. JKUSA adapts, expanding its role to support growing student numbers across engineering, sciences, and management programs, emphasizing academic excellence and innovation.
1994
Full University Charter
JKUAT receives its full university charter. JKUSA solidifies its democratic structure, becoming a key partner in university governance and student welfare, with a focus on non-discriminatory representation and cultural integration.
2016-2017
Constitution Review
In response to the Universities Amendment Act 2016, JKUSA reviews its constitution, introducing a Students' Council model with independent electoral commissions and broader representation from satellite campuses. This modernizes governance for inclusivity and transparency.
2017
Launch of Insight Magazine
JKUSA launches its first student magazine, *Insight*, marking a milestone in creative expression and information dissemination. This initiative aligns with objectives to publish student views and talents.
2025 & Beyond
Ongoing Impact
Under new leadership like Chairperson Peace Love Issa, JKUSA continues advocating for student needs, hosting health drives, awards, and collaborations. With over 30,000 members, it remains the heartbeat of JKUAT, promoting equity, innovation, and unity.
