Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi on Monday September 29, 2025 welcomed a team from the Commission for University Education (CUE) who are on campus to undertake a regular institutional quality audit, mandated, every five years. The visit was preceded by a comprehensive self-assessment exercise undertaken by JKUAT in conformity with its commitment to quality service provision across all its operational areas.

Prof. Ngumi lauded the Commission for steadfast support and guidance which, she said, in many ways, had assisted JKUAT to emerge as one of the most preferred public universities in Kenya.

“As public institution in the higher education sector, we view this exercise as extremely important to us and our stakeholders. We see it as a way of engaging and getting feedback on what we do as a university,” Prof. Ngumi averred.

The CUE team led by Prof. Godfrey Nguru, is composed of peer reviewers, experts and resource persons of diverse but complementing disciplines.

Prof. Nguru noted that the mission of the regular audit was not fault finding, rather, it was collegial enterprise aimed at contributing to the overall JKUAT strength as a leading public university in executing its mandate.

CUE team lead Prof. Godfrey Nguru makes his opening remarks during the event.

“There is nothing wrong that JKUAT has done. We have come to undertake a regular audit, which happens every five years. Your last audit was in 2018,” Prof. Nguru said during a plenary commence the exercise.

Prof. Nguru added that Kenya currently has 82 universities in operation, making the role of CEU in safeguarding quality education critical.

“Public Universities, which are supported by taxpayers, must have the highest possible standards of service delivery”, he said.

The four-day exercise will see the auditors engage various JKUAT stakeholders including the students, staff, Council, Chancellor, alumni and the university management. Some of the key audit areas include curriculum development, library resources, infrastructure development, ad student services.

JKUAT has distinguished itself as a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. As a comprehensive University, the programs covering diverse areas such as agriculture, engineering, ICT, health sciences and applied are designed to produce graduates who are not only job-ready but also innovators and entrepreneurs.
